Is í aidhm Ghaelscoil Laighean ná suíomh oideachais a sholáthar ina spreagtar foghlaim agus forbairt an pháiste. Is bunscoil ilchreidmheach lán-Ghaeilge í atá ag freastail ar bhuachaillí agus ar chailíní.
Tá sé mar aidhm againn timpeallacht shuaimhneach a chruthú ina ndéantar cúram d’fhorbairt intleachtúil, fhisiciúil, chruthaitheach, chultúrtha, shóisialta agus mhothúchánach an pháiste. Curaclam páiste lárnach atá i bhfeidhm a aithníonn luach agus éagsúlacht gach páiste agus a chuireann ar a chumas an fhorbairt iomlán a dhéanamh mar pháiste, agus ina shaol sa tsochaí.
Aithníonn muid go sealbhaítear an teanga níos éifeachtaí agus níos taitneamhaí trí mheán an tumoideachais sna naíonáin. Tá sé tábhachtach dúinn saoithiúlacht Ghaelach a chothú i nGaelscoil Laighean chun cur ar chumas na bpáistí meas agus tuiscint a bheith acu ar a bhféiniúlacht chultúrtha féin. Spreagtar suim i bhfoghlaim teangacha agus cultúir eile.

Mission Statement
Gaelscoil Laighean aims to provide a centre of education where learning and development is inspired in each child. We are a multidenominational Irish medium primary school for all children.
We aim to create a calm surrounding where the intellectual, physical, creative, cultural, social and emotional development of the child can flourish. The child centred curriculum recognises the value and uniqueness of each child and enabling the child to reach for his/her potential in society.
We recognise that immersion education through Irish in the infant classes is a more effective and enjoyable way to learn a language. An appreciation and knowledge of Irish culture is celebrated throughout their time in Gaelscoil Laighean. And an interest in learning other languages and their cultures is encouraged.
We encourage an atmosphere of collaboration in the school community, between the staff, parents and the children
The Irish language is the language of communication in the school.
Éiteas na Scoile
Fáiltíonn an scoil roimh dhaltaí beag beann ar chreideamh, nó gan creideamh, agus léirítear meas ar chúlra sóisialta, cúltúrtha agus creideamh gach páiste. Leantar treorlínte an Fhoras Pátrúnachta agus déantar idirdhealú idir oideachas morálta/ creidimh agus teagasc ar reiligiún sainchreidmheach. Múintear an curaclam OSPS (Oideachas Sóisialta agus Pearsanta agus Sláinte) agus cuirtear aithne ar na mórfhéilte creidimh agus na reiligiúin dhomhanda leis an gclár ‘Croí na Scoile’.
Tá sé mar aidhm ag an gcuraclam OSPS folláine, féinmhuinín agus braistint mhuintearais a chothú sna páistí; taispeáint do na páistí conas a bhth freagrach as rudaí a dhéanann siad féin; cabhrú le páistí bheith níos feasaí agus níos báúla leo féin trí chabhrú leo a gcuid mothúchán féin a bhainistiú, a mbuanna aonair a aithint agus a chothú, agus déileáil le hathruithe de chineálacha éagsúla; tacaíonn sé le páistí ionas go dtiocfaidh siad chun bheith ina saoránaigh ghníomhacha fhreagracha.
School Ethos
The school is open to children of all religions and none, and the social, cultural and religious background of each child is equally respected. The school, under the guidelines of An Foras Pátrúnachta draws a distinction between moral/religious education and denominational instruction. The former is provided through a religious education care curriculum implemented daily in the classroom. We will follow the S.P.H.E. (Social Personal and Health Education Curriculum) accompanied with the ‘Croí na Scoile’ programme in our discovery of all major religious festivals and world religions. Denominational Instruction/Philosophy outside of school hours: the school facilities denominational religion for those wishing to avail of it in afterschool hours.
We believe that specific religious formation is the responsibility of parents and religious organisations outside school. Within the school we aim to ensure that no child has to be set apart as a result of his or her religion. We also understand that many parents want their children to receive formal religious instruction. With this in mind, our Board of Management facilitates the organisation of voluntary faith formation classes outside school hours.
